One thing worth noting is that Creative Commons licenses are non-revocable. Their official explanations are short and sweet, and you can read them on their site. There are a few of these, all maintained by the eponymous non-profit org Creative Commons. The most common licenses for free assets are the Creative Commons licenses. ![]() All linked sound effects and music are free, but there are plenty of great paid options out there if you have the cash. Art is divided into free and paid sections-I've included a paid section because tilesets are the most-requested resource, and stuff that works well in RPGMaker with minimal setup tends to be paid. The resource list is naturally incomplete, but I'll consider adding useful resources if anyone links something good in the comments. This guide includes some details on common asset licenses as well as links to resources I've found useful. What I can do is clear a few things up and make the search for quality assets a little easier. Unfortunately, I can't solve all of that. ![]() Many artists who release tiles use ill-defined custom licenses, and for those that do use standard licenses, there are at least a dozen common licenses you can find. Not only do you have to find quality assets that fit your vision and fit together nicely, you have to keep track of credits and licensing. It's understandable: finding good assets to use in your game is time-consuming and often frustrating. At least a few times a week, someone posts to r/RPGMaker asking where to find custom assets to use in their games. ![]()
